Hello dreamers wherever you are in this great big wonderful world of ours!

Of course, regardless of the longitudinal and latitudinal position you happen to be occupying in this big beautiful world, isn’t it wonderful that our God has chosen to communicate with us through dreams? No matter where you are or what you’re going through, God knows your needs and cares to answer your every prayer, both spoken and unspoken.

I remember the early years in our marriage as we were raising our five kids when we were going through trials and situations that absolutely baffled us. We weren’t aware that God was weighing in on those things, because we weren’t positioned to perceive just yet. We had no idea that many of the dreams we awoke from were actually heaven-sent messages.

We had plenty of “churching.” You know the drill… go to church, be on this and that committee, serve here and serve there, give with our time and offering… yet something seemed to be missing. Knowing that God could and would speak directly into and about our lives was still elusive to us, but we were certainly on our way. We were traveling down a winding road guided by God all the while thinking that we were calling all the shots.

Eventually the earth split open and we fell in… on our heads, no less. The insight that we had been operating within our daily Christian lives soon became obviously lacking. We were full of questions. How in the world did we get here? What did we do to deserve this? How could divine order and redemption come out of this mess? And I guess more urgently…how the heck do we get out of it?

Good questions without a whole lot of answers. The obvious answer seemed to be “wait.” Oh no, not that answer! Not the answer that renders no answer! Yikes. A good word to describe this time in our lives was “stew.”

You know just pray, wait, pray some more, whine a little bit, maybe some complaining to spice it up.

When we ask, “Why isn’t God showing up? Can’t He see or hear me? Has He overlooked me?”, we didn’t comprehend that God has an answer.

Why do you say, O Jacob, And speak, O Israel: “My way is hidden from the Lord, And my just claim is passed over by my God”? Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the Lord, The Creator of the ends of the earth, neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable. Isaiah 40:27-28

God has a different view of seasons of stewing. But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.

For years I thought that verse was saying that God would suddenly bestow strength and energy as a reward for such seasons. I now know that it is BECAUSE of such seasons that we gain strength.

At the time, we pressed in to God with fervent prayer struggling to believe that God’s promises— that until then, hadn’t been tested by us— were actually true.

God tarried a while but eventually showed up in power and might. He blew the doors off our situation— setting me free overnight from my “dark night of the soul” and showing us that He can do what He promises. He can do it literally— not just on the pages of the Bible, but in our lives.

God had been using the 15 month season to turn a page in our lives. The recurring dreams my wife had when we were first married now made sense.

THE 1st RECURRING DREAM

She had kept dreaming that she had a condition like macular degeneration. She described it as having no vision in the center area where a person focuses. She could only see the periphery areas surrounding it, but see them vaguely because she could not shift her eyes to focus on any of it. The dreams were, of course, frustrating and disturbing.

We now know that God was portraying through the dream how she was seeing life. Her view of life at the time was hindered so greatly that she was almost completely missing the most central truths. This, of course, described my perspective on life as well.

We were blind to what was MOST important to God and what He desired MOST of us… things like: child-like faith and total security and fearlessness in Him. He wanted us to learn that He cares most deeply about how we treat others… that He’s less interested in our checking off a list of religious do’s and don’ts than in our love for and obedience to Him. And He wanted us to grasp the full truth of the scripture.

THE 2nd RECURRING DREAM

Following those macular degeneration dreams early in our marriage were dreams of dreading going back to college. She would find herself back at her alma mater, but this time with a feeling of great anxiousness concerning the experience.

These dreams prophesied a very long season of spiritual education… and not always a pleasant experience.

DREAMS DURING A TURNING POINT

Dreams that take place at a turning point in a person’s life— especially recurring dreams— most likely have long-term implications. That is, they may be more about decades than days or weeks.

Did you have impressive dreams as a child or teen? My wife tells me that when in Junior High School and evaluating career directions, she had recurring dreams of chewing meat. Instead of breaking down like it unusually does, it got larger and larger. She would spit the meat out in a water fountain and take a drink, but it kept reappearing for her to chew more.

God was showing her that she had the heart of a teacher, to chew on the “meat” of the Word and to drink of the Holy Spirit.

DON’T JUST STEW

God sends us letters through dreams. When we make sense of them, we are prepared for whatever season we are in, even the stewing seasons. Divine insight brings extraordinary level of peace, empowerment and strategy… something we missed for decades. Learn more about the language of dreams (we have a course on dream interpretation, you know).

I would encourage you today, no matter what you are going through; stay the course. Keep looking to God in prayer. Ask Him for deliverance and restoration…sit back and watch the Master do His thing… in His time. Don’t stop asking, believing and pressing in for the answer. God rewards commitment and persistence.

And don’t just stew about what’s going on in your life. Ask for dreams of enlightenment and encouragement, so you may know what He’s up to in your life.

Please share your answers and testimonies with us by way of comment.

Remember: Each of us receives our own dreams, and each of us knows our own state of affairs. Dreamers are intended to make the best interpreters of their own dreams as they grow in understanding of the parabolic language of dreams.

I’m not you, but that’s my view! Every Blessing!

Raymond
