FALLING IN DREAMS
Universal Dream Element
You are experiencing falling in dreams, or someone you know falling. It may be falling down stairs, off a cliff, from the top of a building, or into what may be a bottomless pit. These dreams are especially disturbing and should not be ignored!
Or how about walking into an open man-hole, where you suddenly find yourself falling in a dark narrow pit knowing that the bottom is approaching quickly, and boy do you wish you could wake up and find yourself safe in your bed, maybe a bit sweaty! Whew!
Their are several approaches to making sense of Falling in dreams. READ ON to explore a Christian Perspective on Dreams of Falling.
WHAT DREAMS OF FALLING MEAN
Dreams of falling indicate loss of support. Think about it… without something beneath us (such as a floor) gravity ensures we would fall.
We remain standing here on earth because of gravity. What we are standing on serves as support for us. Without something underneath us, we fall.
Dreams of falling by a dreamer, then, indicate that he or she may be facing a loss of support of some kind.
Loss of support can be about loss of financial resources, health, job position, etc. But often times, because humans are social creatures, dreams of falling signal a coming loss of emotional support through a relationship. In intense dreams, a fall may prophesy a separation such as divorce or death.
PERSONAL EXPERIENCE WITH FALLING IN DREAMS
From Pastor Lynmarie
One night several years ago, I dreamed one of my daughters was in the back of a car parked at the top of a hill in the darkness. The car backed up into a large pit. In the dream I was unable to look down into the pit to see how deep it was or if it was bottomless.
I awoke in the middle of the night highly disturbed. As I pondered about it the next day, I presumed because she was in college, the dream must have been about an upcoming loss of financial aid. I figured we could overcome the problem when it arose.
WRONG! I should have noticed the darkness and the intensity and impressiveness of the dream, how it alarmed me and stuck with me, the emotions it incited. And I should have put it together with the following dream that night. I could have been strategically praying.
I can’t claim to understand all the ways of the invisible world, but a couple of months later, my daughter’s boyfriend was killed in a late night motorcycle accident. The loss of support for my daughter can’t be described in words.
Keep in mind that this example is extreme. Many situations of loss of support are much more trivial.
WHAT CAN BE DONE IF YOU ARE EXPERIENCING DREAMS OF FALLING
Dreams of falling by a dreamer may be a warning to the dreamer, because possibly, something may be done to prevent this. Remember, Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall. Proverbs 16:18
You know what to do if you sense the Lord is convicting you of this attitude. Agree with Him that you need him… that without him, you wouldn’t be where you are, or have what you have. Turn away in your heart from thinking you are “all that and a bag of chips.” Confess that you need the Lord.
But dreams of falling, more times than not, may have nothing to do with the need for humility. The Lord is sovereign; He will do what pleases him. For you, LORD, are the Most High over all the earth; you are exalted far above all gods.” Psalm 97:9
He is unmatched in his love for us, and able to father and teach us in perfect wisdom. His ways are higher than ours, and his purposes many.
WHEN ARE DREAMS OF FALLING PROPHECIES OF WHAT ACTUALLY WILL COME TO PASS?
Generally, when dreams are “confirmed” in some way, they will play out, and we should prepare for how to handle the event. By confirmed, we mean that more than one thing prophesies it. Dreams within dreams of falling, BTW, a stronger indication of that.
So having more than one dream of it could indicate that a loss of support may play out in real life.
Or repeated dreams of falling could come to get our attention, because what the dream applies to is probably important.
