BEING LATE IN DREAMS
Universal Dream Element
It’s an Alice in Wonderland dream. “You’re late, you’re late, for a very important date!” So you awoke from a very frustrating sense of failure. You didn’t make it there on time… or perhaps you didn’t make it there at all!
It was important event; and you botched it by getting there after it has started, as it was almost finished, or lamenting that you’d completely missed it!
You wake up discouraged, because you would never want personal loss or disapproval from others due to your tardiness, whether minimal or extreme. Depending upon the occasion, the consequences could be disastrous! And you wonder if it was the devil who sent the dream.
Let’s begin to make some sense of those dreams. READ ON to explore a Christian Perspective on dreams of being late.
LATE DREAM GENERAL MEANING
LATE dreams mean there is a time you are supposed to be somewhere.
The somewhere is a separate issue, but critical to the making sense of the dream.
Rather than a geographical “place”, these dreams generally speak of a figurative location. And rather than a literal “event” that you are late to, these dreams address any number of things connected to a time-line.
The “somewhere” you are late to may refer to your having completed the numerous steps needed to complete a project, ministry, or endeavor of some kind.. or maybe starting the endeavor.
Or the “somewhere” may be an attitude or perspective change… perhaps acceptance of someone or something.
Maybe God is calling you to get to the “place of forgiveness” regarding someone who offended or hurt you.
And sometimes we need to get to a place where we agree with God, rather than bucking what He’s been doing lately in our lives.
The symbolism of the location or event you are late for in a dream must be discerned by the dreamer if it’s not clear in the dream. And remember, an event or location— though literal in the dream— is most likely symbolizing something else.
DO LATE DREAMS MEAN I NEED TO HURRY UP?
Late dreams can be “GOD SHARING A MIRROR” OR “GOD SHARING AN URGENCY”.
One of these DOES suggest the need to proceed (in whatever the dream applies to) while keeping in mind that TIME IS A FACTOR in the outcome of this. In this type of dream, God is urging the dreamer “get there” as soon as possible.
TYPE 1— “GOD SHARING A MIRROR” DREAMS
Consider taking comfort in these dreams. God may be telling you to stop stressing out! “How can that be?” you ask.
Ask yourself if you are living life as if you BELIEVE you will be late for what He has planned for you. Maybe you’re confident He’s promised you a particular blessing, but think you may be messing it up by not being as diligent as could be.
Through these dreams, God puts up mirrors in front of us in order to help us see for ourselves how we are behaving.
Go back to the meaning of LATE DREAMS: There is a time you are supposed to be somewhere.
Interpret “GOD SHARING A MIRROR” dreams to mean: GOD KNOWS WHAT TIME IT IS, AND WILL MAKE SURE YOU ARE PUNCTUAL! He is in control, and you need to stop worrying about possibly failing!
So, LATE dreams may be given to encourage you just when you are feeling discouraged about something in your life not coming to pass in the timing you think it should. Not to worry; there is a set appointed time for this in your life!
TYPE 2— “GOD SHARING AN URGENCY” DREAMS
But late dreams could simply be GOD SHARING AN URGENCY that you may be missing.
In these cases, late dreams are a challenge to the dreamer to pick up the pace because there is a time you are supposed to be somewhere and YOU HAVE A PART in making that happen!
Remember, as sons and daughters of our Lord, do partner with Him!
“GOD SHARING A MIRROR” dreams tell the dreamer to move it along, because time is of the essence.
HOW CAN I TELL WHICH DREAM TYPE I RECEIVED?
If you are living day to day in a state of stress, living out the notion that you will not get the job done in God’s allotted time, God is most likely sending mirror dreams to you, so that you can see your lack of faith in a particular area of your life.
But, that clue alone, may not determine which it is, because you may be correctly perceiving that you actually need to pick up the pace─ especially if you have let something go for a quite some time!
One way to tell is to look to other dreams. If you are also having dreams that show that you have been neglecting something (dust, clutter, etc.), a late dream is reinforcing the message that time is an important factor in some area of your life.
If you dream you should be drinking coffee, God may be telling you to hurry along. But if you are served tea, He may be suggesting you chill out.
Dreams about brakes working or not working as you drive a vehicle can also be clues.
PERSONAL EXPERIENCE WITH LATE DREAMS
From Pastor Lynmarie
In one instance, I dreamed I was in college taking a couple of courses. I was particularly frustrated since I knew I was late to science class, lost the book, and didn’t know where the class was!
It was made clear the next day by the literal fulfillment of another scene in the dream that the science class was biology, specifically the biology of death.
I was out-of-state celebrating the 88th birthday of my father, who was suffering from lung cancer.
LATENESS in the dream indicated that God was urging me to stick around (a foreign concept to me since I had a husband and several kids at home). I did so, and the prophesied “biology class” reached its pinnacle within the week of the dream, when my beloved father died.
As it turned out, it was critical that I remain with them during this intense period.
Additionally, later I realized that the “lost book” part of the dream was relevant as well, as it would have helped mom and I to more carefully have read the hospice book, providing some useful information that we missed.
BTW- I don’t blame God for that one as it wasn’t a big deal, but did help me understand dreams better. See Dreams of Being Lost
