We are pleased to announce that we are launching a project to expand the dream dictionary entries on the site. As we add these new entries, we will additionally highlight many of them in posts like this one- 10 entries per post.
Please remember that in addition to element symbolism, dream interpretation is based on a myriad of factors which should be considered before drawing conclusions. All dictionary entries are for suggestion purposes only, and we cannot guarantee that the information on this post applies to your dreams. We believe, however, that we do an exceptional job of vetting dictionary entries through actual dream experience.
Five of these entries were from a recent dream element request. If you’ve searched a dictionary category and don’t see the element you’re looking for, request new element information by submitting a request on the corresponding dictionary topic page as a comment (50 word limit; subscription to comments required). Alternatively, email us if you are requesting several. In most cases we will add your element to the dictionary as we have with these.
1. Adultery (ACTIVITIES)
The primary meaning of this is biblical, having to do with unfaithfulness, but most likely not to a spouse, because this is a more literal interpretation that God generally uses.
This is unfaithfulness to a COMMITMENT. The first possibility is one’s commitment to the Lord, for this is the most important commitment.
Additionally, adultery may have to do with someone or something a person is partnered with or a business or ministry partner.
This symbolism, for instance, has been used by God to urge a person to keep up their financial giving at church.
2. Award Ribbons (OBJECTS)
Blue-Ribbon- dreaming that you are awarded a blue-ribbon signals that someone is pleased with your work on a project. This most likely is God, but depending on the dream details, this may be saying that “a person sees you as doing a good job” or that “you think you deserve a pat-on-the-back for your work.”
Red-Ribbon- this indicates a good job, but less than its potential. One dreamer received a red-ribbon and was mad at the judge. In this case, God was encouraging the dreamer to be open-minded because a better idea was available.
White-Ribbon- this shows participation, but little effort. Since God tends to bring encouragement rather than discouragement, don’t expect to see this symbol in a dream from God.
Champion-Ribbon- this award in a dream suggests that this is the best, the top. This dream element is confirmation. Stick with what you are doing.
Reserve-Champion Ribbon- God is encouraging the one awarded this ribbon that this idea or project is second-best, and perhaps to seek a better one, because there is one, and He is faithful to provide it.
3. Backwards Hat (CLOTHING & NAKEDNESS)
Since hats in dreams indicate a ROLE that the person wearing it is playing, a backwards hat most likely indicates that the role being addressed in the dream is BACKWARDS. If the person wearing the backwards hat is the dreamer, the concept is simple: the dreamer is carrying out a role in an opposite fashion to God’s will.
If the person wearing the hat is not the dreamer, the dreamer must discern who or what the person wearing the hat symbolizes, because this person is most likely not literal.
4. Dancing (ACTIVITIES)
Dreams of dancing may have to do with joy. One person, who dreamed of giving dance lessons, was later called into ministry to teach the joy of the Lord.
The meaning of dancing with a partner depends on who the partner is, what kind of dancing, and how well they are doing at it.
A woman dreamed that she was slow-dancing with her beloved deceased father, which meant that her Heavenly Father was very close and joining her in every move.
Another dancing dream depicted a couple stepping on each other’s toes. Clearly, they needed to focus on their marriage.
5. Drums (ROOMS & THEIR CONTENTS, OBJECTS)
In antiquity, drums were a primary means of communication, perhaps, from one tribe or village to another. Therefore, playing a drum or a set of drums in dreams most likely speaks of communication… speaking, marketing, persuading, preaching, etc.
Even if the dreamer is a drummer in real life, the dream is most likely about communication, and may provide instructive detail.
A drum set in the distance may bring encouragement by showing that they at least are in the room.
Someone else playing your drum set reveals that the dreamer needs to take authority of some communication.
A teacher, for instance, reported receiving dreams that a simple set would do, that less pieces were better.
6. Ladybugs (CREATURES)
Ladybugs in Christian dream interpretation are a sign of blessing. More specifically, they indicate the Lord’s protection in the removal of pests. Think of ladybugs in dreams as God’s angels equipped for victory in battle after battle. The implication is that the situation in the dream may involve much warfare and many battles.
Many ladybugs in a dream indicates much protection. One ladybug may indicate protection, but that there is only one situation which needs protecting.
7. Piano/Keyboard (ROOMS & THEIR CONTENTS, OBJECTS)
Like playing the drums, playing the piano most likely has to do with communication. But this communication can be described as ELABORATE.
One dreamer conveyed a dream of a pianist judge and the ruling in the court. The dreamer was undergoing a struggle for a mortgage approval. The pianist symbolism made clear the situation the dream was speaking of… elaborate because it was so involved and taking so long.
Playing piano can also symbolize BEAUTY because there is both melody and harmony. This may be speaking of speech or presentation, but can be speaking of another kind of beauty, for there are many ways beauty presents itself and through any of our senses.
A piano may, of course, be rather literal in a dream, symbolizing music. One dreamer moved into a house with a golden grand piano. The person changed churches and the music there was optimal for that dreamer who joined the praise team.
Another dreamer dreamed she must give up her keyboard and was instructed that she was not to take it with her to college, but rather, to give it to a woman who already had one. This dream prophesied that as the dreamer moved into a new (and higher learning) ministry experience, she was literally to supply a keyboard to the ministry, so the keyboardist wouldn’t have to keep bringing on in each week.
8. Possum/Opossum (CREATURES)
A possum in a dream is generally an alternative symbol for a deceased person, which prophecies that something which appears to be over and done with will be resurfacing. A possum is similar, prophesying that something which appears to be dead or asleep is actually not, but rather, is pretending to be. This, then, specifies that there is dishonesty in the situation being addressed in the dream.
This dream element is most likely a warning that someone is masquerading as benign when they actually have an agenda that may be intended to bring harm. And the motive stems from fear.
It should be noted that the symbolism of this element may include (or be focused on) the fact that the possum avoids putting much effort into building, preferring to utilize what others have built.
Another possibility worth noting is that this creature may represent an unusual immunity (protection) from disease/poison which can be extended to others.
9. Skating and Skateboarding (ACTIVITIES)
Skating in general indicates smooth easy movement as in “skating by”.
ICE SKATING speaks of smooth and easy movement on something that is not ready yet or it’s time may be for later. A person doing this in a dream indicates the person is either ahead of schedule or preparation of something that has a long way to go to achieve the goal.
SKATING ON THIN ICE is different, simply meaning the your activity is dangerous.
ROLLER SKATING OR ROLLER-BLADING are positive elements indicating that progress is being made in a smooth and easy fashion.
SKATEBOARDING, then, symbolizes this type of forward movement, but EFFORT is continually required to keep it going. Therefore, skateboarding in dreams may be speaking of the “maintenance” of something, keeping something going.
Clearly, however, the main feature of skateboarding is the TRICKS one can do, so alternatively, this element in dreams can have to do with tricks being play on a dreamer or by a dreamer.
10. Unibrow (ANATOMY)
Eyebrows in general have a couple of main functions. One is to prevent sweat from falling down into the eyes. Just as important is their contribution to communication by facial expression.
Eyebrows in dreams most likely are speaking to one of those concepts rather than both.
A UNIBROW most likely has to do with the first, indicating “full protection” from sweat getting into the eyes. Dreams of unibrows may be telling the dreamer not to sweat it, not to fret… “don’t let weariness or fear cloud your sight; look to Jesus instead!”
