My husband and I were in the midst of a teaching series in a church several years ago when a woman I had invited to the class attended and maintained a pleasant smile during the meeting. One of the objectives that night was to stir up the prophetic gifts among those attending. Soon thereafter, I received a copy of an email that the pastor had sent to her in response to her complaint about us. She had accused us due to her lack of exposure to the prophetic, assuming that prophetic ministry and psychic readings are one and the same. Too bad she hadn’t asked us directly her question:
Is there such a thing as Christian psychics? Isn’t prophetic ministry the same as psychic or new age readings? Something true Christians should avoid?
The Bible makes it clear that Satan counterfeits what the Lord genuinely does! Moses was instructed to do signs and wonders “so that they may believe that the Lord, the God of their fathers— the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob— has appeared to you,” Exodus 4:5. Yet, the magicians of Egypt counterfeited the miracles of Moses by the power of false gods.
There are two power sources on earth— one good, one evil. If we are doing similar things as the New Agers, it’s because they are copying us! They call those in New Age utilizing supernatural power psychic. We call believers utilizing the supernatural prophetic. The difference??— where the information is coming from—the Kingdom of Light or the kingdom of darkness! Millions of wells have been witched by an unexplainable technique called dousing. Since these folks do not call on the name of the Lord, they are automatically calling on another god opening the door to a curse.
We as children of the Most High are not to be intimidated by the enemy’s counterfeiting techniques. False religions and cults hold services. Should we not? They utilize music in the services. Should we not? They take up a collection there. Should we not? They look into the meaning of dreams. Should we not? They attempt to stir up the supernatural. Should we not?
Scripture says that God placed the stars in the sky, named them, and that they declare the glory of God. A study of ancient cultures reveals that star groups were historically seen similarly in distant lands, although these images are not obvious when viewing the star groups. In reality, this ancient naming of the constellations declares the message of the gospel in amazing detail, and does so parabolically (star by star, and constellation by constellation) beginning with the Virgin and ending with the Lion. Yet Satan has grandly succeeded in counterfeiting the true message in the stars though horoscopes. Read the amazing details in the book by D. James Kennedy.
